Yellowstone National Park
Opened in 2010, this 26,000 square foot visitor center showcases the park’s most beloved feature—Old Faithful Geyser, an icon that attracts more than 3 million visitors annually. I provided interpretive planning and writing services for this project. I worked closely with five of the nation’s preeminent scientists recognized for their knowledge of Yellowstone’s hydrothermal features, extreme microorganisms and the Yellowstone hotspot, building consensus about exhibit content and translating their vast scientific knowledge into clear and relevant prose for visitors. I also developed the Young Scientist area, the first hands-on children’s gallery in a national park, earning praise from New York Times columnist, Edward Rothstein who wrote in his August 30, 2010 review that “in the Young Scientists gallery everything becomes vividly concrete.”
